Revamped Meeting Schedule

Posted by LP User on Monday, May 22, 2023, In : Club News

Exciting news! Our meeting schedule is getting a revamp for the better! After careful consideration, we've decided streamline our meetings to one in-person and one online meeting a month. This change aims to make our meetings more efficient.

From past experience we have seen this time of year is super busy, with many members juggling multiple commitments, and getting up early for a Toastmasters meeting during winter can be a challenge.  Typically, most members attend once or twice a month, wit...

What If You Could Write a Speech Quickly?

Posted by LP User on Sunday, December 12, 2021, In : Competition news
Akos Mensah, 19 November 2021

Recently one of my fellow Toastmasters called me the night before our club meeting to say that he would like to pull out as a contestant as he felt ill prepared to participate in the Humour Contest. He had not yet completed writing his 7 minute speech. He had been busy with work deadlines, and he felt that he needed more time to prepare his speech. He offered to do a different role in the meeting and wanted to be a timekeeper or Zoommaster.

I listened to him and a...

Successful online Contest at The Breakfast Club, Cape Town

Posted by LP User on Sunday, August 15, 2021, In : Meetings

3 March 2021

The International Speech contest was something out of the ordinary for everyone at the Breakfast Club.

The engaging and exciting contest was held online, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  Four phenomenal speakers brought their A-game and blew us away with their speeches. They were: Gideon Louw, Marc Burgess, Nerisa Shiri Mnemba and Vuyokazi Ntsangani.

Toastmaster Vuyokazi Ntsangani took the first prize with her speech titled: "It's just a lie", a speech that touched hearts and rea...

An epic start to 2021 at The Breakfast Club

Posted by LP User on Sunday, August 15, 2021, In : Meetings

Meeting on 13.01.2021, Vuyo Ntsangani

The Breakfast Club had our first meeting of the year on Wednesday 13 January 2021 and, all one can say is, what an epic start?

The meeting attracted the club’s  regular visitors from across the country such as DTM Stanley Sabela, Hannah Schmidt from Namibia as well as well as our friends from the United State of America, Linda and her husband Alan Mann. I saw our chat box popping up with comments from our visitors who showed enthusiasm to be there, the...

The Breakfast Club, surviving and thriving online

Posted by LP User on Thursday, March 25, 2021, In : Club News

One year of online meetings....

A year ago, South Africa went into lockdown due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19). Since then, many aspects of personal and professional lives have been disrupted, but Toastmasters clubs went online very quickly to provide a sense of normalcy to our members. This has allowed members to visit a Toastmasters Club anywhere in the world from the comfort of our homes.  The Breakfast Club had the first virtual meeting on 25 March 2020 and during the past year, we ...

Chocolate for Breakfast!

Posted by LP User on Wednesday, July 22, 2015, In : Meeting updates

Seriously, we always get chocolate prizes at the Breakfast Club...

That is why so many of us attend ;)

But today we actually all got to eat gourmet choccies for breakfast - what a pity some chocolate lovers like Noni could not be with us ;)

Our cracking three speeches started with Brenda Trope's "Mmm, chocolate — yummy!" in which she demonstrated how one can make healthy, unprocessed chocolate and used body language in her speech as part of her CC5 assignment. We all got to sample her scummy w...

Meeting #190 with Aletta

Posted by Alison Beere as Webmaster/PR on Wednesday, June 17, 2015, In : Meeting updates
Thank you to the outgoing Division Governor of Toastmasters Southern Africa, Aletta Rochat, who shared "Reflections of a DG" with us as a Competent Communicator project.

Her inspiring points were that:
  •  holding high office is not about the Wearing the Badge, but about the opportunity to serve and grow
  • things are always personal first, because that is how the Toastmasters organisation best serves the individual member
  • you have to have a message, otherwise you are just transmitting information.

Alison Beere (Breakfast Club secretary) has taken on the task of dealing with all things web, so watch this space for more Club news!

The big win for Alison is that this relatively small administrative commitment will help her fulfill the requirements of a couple of projects in her Competent Leadership manual, moving her closer to her next achievement.

Love your Leadership Manual

Posted by LP User on Thursday, January 30, 2014, In : Member involvement
In a toughly contested battle between V. Acant and myself, I am the newly appointed VP PR (Vice President - Public Relations) for The Breakfast Club.

My purpose for this new role is two fold: complete my CL manual by using this position to fulfil some outstanding assignments, (see, I am honest) and to give other members the opportunity to work on some of the more obscure assignments (I am generous too).

If you are trying to finish your CL manual, (and who wouldn’t want to achieve that accola...

Meeting review - 22 January 2014

Posted by LP User on Thursday, January 30, 2014, In : Meeting updates
~ Sarah Rossouw

After an excellent meeting the week before, mostly because I got over myself and shocked everyone by delivering a prepared speech, I was thrilled to see a full table of faces greet me on Wednesday morning – 14 pairs of eyes stared with anticipation back at me!  We welcomed two guests in this number, Rhona and Leanne, a mother and daughter team out to conquer the world.  We hope to see them again.

Francois led the meeting with his usual aplomb and entertained us with stories i...

Posted by Angela Horn on Wednesday, October 17, 2012, In : Competition news

Toastmasters from across the country gathered in the Mother City this past weekend for District 74's annual MiniCon, which was hosted at Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. It kicked off on Friday evening and didn’t stop until the last booty had been shaken late on Saturday night.

It’s been said that once you have attended a conference you will be hooked for life, a truism if ever there was one. District 74 Conferences are renowned for providing great value for money, fantasti...

19th September: Meeting Review

Posted by Angela Horn on Sunday, September 23, 2012, In : Meeting updates
At just over a year old and already 59 meetings in, I think we can safely say that The Breakfast Club is way past “the little train that could” stage and now in a league all its own. Catch us if you can is probably more apt these days.   We enjoyed another fun meeting this morning, with lots of old faces and even a few new ones. It was great to have such a big turnout.

Unfortunately Thobeka made a last minute apology, which left Angela not only as the first speaker on the agenda, but also ...

Breakfast Club is now chartered!

Posted by LP User on Monday, September 17, 2012, In : Club News
The Breakfast Club’s first meeting was on Wednesday 6 July 2011 with 14 people in attendance.

It was the brainchild of Francois Rossouw and Jason Sandler, who kicked the idea around for some months before a venue was found and the first meeting was organised.  Since then the club has had 58 meetings and grown its membership to 20 members.

The club was chartered on 27 June 2012  - a huge and exciting milestone for the club and all its members!
